Niskayuna Reformed Church Cemetery Tour

“A Changing Community: the Niskayuna Reformed Church Cemetery” In honor of the 250th anniversary of the Niskayuna Reformed Church Last year the Niskayuna Reformed Church History and Archives Committee sponsored a cemetery tour focused on the Community Beginnings of the Town of Niskayuna. In 2026 we will look at how the dramatic changes in society during the second half of the 20th century impacted the town and its residents. After the Second World War the Town of Niskayuna experienced a dramatic change in population, going from 6,348 people in 1940 to 15,405 by 1965. This mainly suburban expansion was caused by corporate and industrial growth in the town. The character of Niskayuna changed from a mainly rural farming community to a suburban residential area. The church membership increased to its highest number in 1962 with 757 members, made up of 409 families. The cemetery reflects these changes; on this tour we will investigate the different professions and demographic makeup of the post-war Niskayuna.
