Photography Club of Davis

The program will feature John Spurr, a Davis native and longtime club member, who will share a collection of photographs taken over nearly 30 years of travel through the American Southwest. Spurr’s work focuses on remote landscapes beyond paved roads, including unique rock formations, ancient Native American ruins and rock art, and occasional dinosaur tracks. A retired medical research associate and financial officer from UC Davis, Spurr has led a multifaceted life that includes years as an electric guitarist in local rock bands. His interest in the canyon country began 35 years ago. For the past 29 years, he and his wife have spent two weeks annually hiking and exploring the hidden corners between the region’s state and national parks and monuments. Inspired by the raw beauty and solitude of these landscapes, Spurr began pursuing photography more seriously 25 years ago. Their adventures often lead them to places so isolated that they rarely encounter another soul. This event is free and open to the public. Those interested in photography, nature, or the Southwest are welcome to attend.
