Master Singers of Northeast Ohio 25th Anniversary concert -- Classical plus a Modern Premiere

First finding its voice in 2001 when the Millennium was young, Master Singers Chorale of Northeast Ohio this Spring celebrates a quarter century. For its 25th Anniversary concert, the regional group looks to its original motto of "Preserving the Past and Premiering the Future" of classical choral music, with a program of some favorite composers -- Brahms, Rutter, Fauré, Mozart, Schubert and more. Chorus and orchestra are conducted by MSC Artistic Director Marc Weagraff, Professor of Voice at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory. In line with "Premiering the Future," Master Singers will also present a world premiere of a new work, "Everyone Sang" by Cleveland composer Eric Charnofsky. In the past, the Chorale has presented American and world premieres by 17 contemporary composers from Spain, England, Portugal, Australia, Italy and the United States. This group is formed of about 60 people from all sorts of backgrounds -- lawyers, accountants, caregivers, students, journalists -- all who share a passion for performing outstanding masterworks, new and old. Their philosophy, as outlined by founding director the late J.D. Goddard, is "the blind faith that people of all walks of life and ages would join together, want to sing and work hard, and be allowed to sing . . .to explore the emotions of their hearts and voices with their God-given full range of vocal abilities." In varied aural spaces of towering Gothic shrines, traditional chancels, and modern auditoriums, Master Singers Chorale has brought an ambitious and innovative body of music to the region's audiences. This concert will be presented twice -- at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at St. Sebastian Church, 476 Mull Ave., Akron; and then at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls. Admission is provided free, thanks to support from the Akron Community Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council. For more information, see www.mastersingersinc.org
