The Rialto Theatre in Akron's historic Kenmore neighborhood will host an exciting tribute to the legendary rock band, Radiohead, on Saturday, August 30th. This fund-raising event offers an evening of live music from featured area artists to support the local non-profit, Keep Akron Beautiful.
Radiohead is an English rock band formed in 1985 in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The band consists of Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, piano), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar), Colin Greenwood (bass), Ed O'Brien (guitar, backing vocals), and Philip Selway (drums, percussion). They initially gained fame with their 1992 debut single "Creep" and their debut album, Pablo Honey. Radiohead is known for their experimental and innovative approach to music, evolving from alternative rock to incorporate electronic and art-rock elements.
The evening at the Rialto Theatre promises to be a stirring celebration of Radiohead’s incredible songwriting, with a full band backing eight singers as they interpret their favorite Radiohead hits and deep cuts. Featured performers include: Chrissy Strong, Bethany Joy, Sunflurry, Adam Brown, Alex Beck, Jim Dotson, Landon Kearns, and Auggie Ruggiero. The house band is also packed with some of the area's best musicians including Tim Ellinger (drums), Bill Marzano (bass), Bert Solis (keyboard), and Timothy Koehler (lead guitar).
Opening the show is Rialto newcomer and Medina native, L Kearns. Followed by Akron’s own Varsity Golf, a power-trio known for their great timing and deep rhythmic grooves.
This event hopes to be a force for good in the Akron community. Organized by Landon Kearns and Tim Ellinger, local musicians and members of the band Rye Valley, all proceeds from ticket sales and donations collected during the event will be donated to local non-profit, Keep Akron Beautiful (KAB). Established in 1981 to implement a comprehensive litter prevention, recycling promotion and beautification program for the City of Akron, KAB makes a positive difference in the experience of Akron residents and visitors.
"Radiohead’s songs have been connecting with people for decades” says Ellinger. “They are hugely influential in the world of rock and locally here in Akron, so many local musicians are Radiohead fans.” Kearns adds, "We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful community of musicians willing to donate their time and talents to events like this."
