Longest Table Event

END TIME IS APPROX. FROM THE ORGANIZERS: Main Street Kent and the City of Kent are planning a community meal on the W. Main St. bridge overlooking the Cuyahoga River on Sun., Aug. 3 at 5pm! The bridge will be set up with 40 tables and 240 chairs for the community to come together and “break bread”. The event is free, and organizers are seeking 40 “captains” to coordinate a meal with five other guests for their table only, including main course, side dishes, desserts, place settings, centerpieces, etc. Table captains can sign up on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/longest-table-kent-tickets-1489618893209. Where did this idea come from? The first Longest Table was in October, 2022. What started as a “what if” post on the local social platform Nextdoor, quickly became a “why not.” Since then, The Longest Table movement is spreading. People in more than 120 cities worldwide are hosting one themselves! For more info, visit https://www.longesttablecommunity.org/. Every Longest Table event is unique. Neighbors have hosted down the street, in the park, indoors, with churches, in libraries, with chambers of commerce, at universities, and so on. In every case, something magical happens when we sit together to share a meal — strangers become friends and neighbors become family. City Councilman Chris Hook, Community Engagement Coordinator Dominique Bollenbacher and Main Street Kent Executive Director Heather Malarcik are working to put the event together and Malarcik shared, “We’re excited to bring this to downtown Kent for the first time, knowing people will create delicious homemade dishes, bring carryout from their favorite local spots, and enjoy a Sunday evening with new friends in the community.” For more information, visit the event page on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/share/1Auwtz4PFV/
