100th Anniversary Series: The Bridge on the River Kwai, presented by actor Stephen Lang

The 100th Anniversary Series, presented by industry luminaries, highlights important films from the past 100 years that continue to inspire their presenters. Lauded as one of the great war epics, and brilliantly shot in CinemaScope, director David Lean depicts a clash of wills between British POW officer Colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness) and Japanese officer Colonel Saito (Sessue Hayakawa) over the building of a jungle railway bridge in Burma during WWII. The film won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Although novelist Pierre Boulle received the only screenwriting credit upon its release, blacklisted writers Michael Wilson and Carl Foreman were eventually recognized for their Oscar-winning adaptation, and were posthumously recognized in 1984.
