Tsui Hark’s
THE BLADE (1995) plus a secret surprise 2nd feature!
Tsui Hark masterpiece flips the swordfighting hero genre inside out with his revisionist look at the cinematic legend of the proverbial One-Armed Swordsman, who – having lost an arm – must learn to embrace his loss in order to overcome. This time, however, instead of focusing on the honor, dignity and art found in all traditional swordfighting hero films, Tsui Hark forces us to examine the brutal barbarism at their core. Critic Kristina Winters writes: “I have never seen a more frenetic and bloody and full-of-sweaty-man-butts film... I now need to watch it at least six more times.” Not Rated. Cantonese w/English Subtitles.105 minutes.
