Wild Hearts Gallery presents, David Croxton, Woodworker: The Art of Turning
Wild Hearts Gallery in Placitas invites the public to a reception on July 11, 1-3 pm to meet Woodworker, David Croxton and talk about his show: The Art of Turning, Exhibit runs from June 30 – August 2.
The Art of Turning will spotlight David Croxton’s Basket Illusion pieces, one of his favorite techniques, where a solid piece of wood is crafted to look like a woven basket. In addition, the exhibit will include items from his Ancient Dwellings series as well as vessels of natural wood that need no embellishment due to their exceptional grain and color.
“Turning wood is like magic; it begins when the lathe starts spinning and sharp tools send wood chips flying into the air like natural confetti. The beauty of the wood is revealed as material is turned away.”
David has an obsession with turning wood into art. He has participated in multiple exhibits and art events in Placitas, NM, as well as the New Mexico State Fair where for the last three years his work has been awarded multiple First Place Ribbons and a Best of Show. He has been a member of the New Mexico Wood Turners since 2018 and a member of the American Association of Woodturners since 2023. His work has also been featured twice in the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) “Beyond the Bevel” and received “Turning of the Week” recognition in the members’ gallery of the AAW online forum, which is viewed nationally and internationally.
The artists’ reception will be celebrated with fellowship and refreshments on Saturday, July 11, 1-3 pm. The First Sunday ARTScrawl on July 5 will include a demonstration by the artist of his Basketweave Illusion technique between 11 am and 1 pm.
Wild Hearts Gallery is an artists’ collective, supported by 14 local artists. Located at 221-B State Highway 165, the gallery is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 am. to 4:00 pm., Saturday-Sunday from 10:00 am. to 2:00 pm. Take a visual tour of monthly exhibits in the gallery at wildheartsgallery.com.
