Artist of the Month: Allen Herring at The 8th House

For the month of February, The 8th House presents Artist of the Month: Allen Herring, an Albuquerque-based artist working primarily in collage. Allen Herring describes his artistic practice as a long, largely private journey—one that developed quietly alongside a professional career outside the art world. Only recently has he stepped forward publicly, sharing work he has made over many years with honesty and intention. His approach values process over performance, and presence over spectacle. Collage is central to Allen’s work. Through cutting, assembling, and recomposing found imagery, he engages in a practice he has described as meditative. The resulting pieces invite slow looking and personal interpretation, rewarding viewers who take time to sit with the work rather than rushing to conclusions. The exhibition runs Sunday, February 1 through Saturday, February 28. The 8th House is open weekends only, making each visit a limited opportunity to experience the work in person. A Meet the Artist event will be held on Saturday, February 21, from 5–7 PM. Hosted by the artist, the evening includes drinks and treats and features extended gallery hours. This event offers visitors the chance to meet Allen Herring, learn more about his process, and collect work directly from the artist.
