Wild Hearts Gallery presents Jewelry Artists Sandy Johnson and Geri Verble “The Art of Serendipity”

Wild Hearts Gallery in Placitas invites the public to a reception on February 7, 1-3 pm to meet Jewelry Artists Sandy Johnson and Geri Verble and talk about their show: “The Art of Serendipity”, Exhibit runs from February 3 – March 1. Serendipity embraces the unexpected, honoring the moments of chance that spark creativity and give rise to unique jewelry design. The works of Sandy Johnson and Geri Verble celebrate the beauty found in unplanned encounters where intuition, material and movement converge to shape wearable works of art. Sandy Johnson is a jewelry designer working primarily in silver, fabricating necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings and chains. She uses both precious and semi-precious stones, many selected rough - then cut and shaped for her design. “I became fascinated by the ability to move and manipulate seemingly hard, stiff metal into the shapes I needed to execute my designs. Silver is my favorite metal; it is amazingly malleable and can be coaxed into lovely designs with the cut of a saw, the tap of a hammer or the kiss of a flame. My style is contemporary, my designs are unique.” Geri Verble specializes in tribal and ethnic jewelry. She developed a passion for collecting ethnic beads and pendants while traveling with the Peace Corps. Bead collecting not only became a passion for her, but a journey into learning about the history of beads and the people behind them. Each piece tells a storied history which inspires each design. “Serendipity is about trusting the process. Some of the most meaningful designs happen when I allow the materials to speak. These pieces reflect those fleeting, magical moments when everything unexpectedly aligns.” First Sunday ARTScrawl is the last day to view Karl and Mary Hofmann’s Fragments of a Childhood Odyssey and a chance to preview The Art of Serendipity before its Tuesday opening. To demonstrate how serendipity and vision guide the art of jewelry making, Sandy and Geri invite visitors to create an “Art of Chance” beaded stretch bracelet. Coffee is on at 10 am; guided bracelet making will be from 11 am to 1 pm. Wild Hearts Gallery is an artists’ collective, supported by 14 local artists. Located at 221-B State Highway 165, the gallery is open Tuesday–Friday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Saturday–Sunday 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
