Parkland Garden Club 27th Annual Star-Spangled Garden Tour
Parkland Garden Club will hold their 27th annual Garden Tour will be open to the public on Saturday, July 11, 2026. This year’s tour features 8 distinctive home gardens in the Lehigh Valley, plus the Community Peace Garden at Jordan United Church of Christ (Rt. 309 & Walbert Avenue) from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
Highlights of this year’s tour include a Japanese garden, a certified pollinator garden, and an all-native garden with a large meadow. Gardening author Eva Monheim will be on hand to talk about her new book Shrubs and Hedges, and a silent auction will be part of the day’s fun.
To celebrate America’s special birthday, the Club has sponsored a young Tulip Poplar, “Liberty Tree 250”, to be planted at Jordan UCC and dedicated on the day of the tour. In collaboration with South Whitehall Township and the church, an official ceremony is scheduled at 10:00 AM to honor Rev. Abraham Blumer (1736-1822) ~ pastor, military chaplain, and patriot, a significant local figure in the cause for the colonies’ independence. Revolutionary-era figures Benjamin Franklin and John Bartram will join the ceremony, along with US Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, PA Representative Mike Schlossberg and South Whitehall Township Commissioner Jacob Roth. Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania President Pat Wolanski will offer remarks on behalf of the 5000 statewide garden club membership.
The keynote speaker for the tree dedication ceremony is retired Kutztown University professor Edward Quinter, a historian who will share some of his extensive knowledge of Abraham Blumer and the local patriot movement during the 18th century.
Advance tickets for the tour are available at multiple garden centers and markets in the local area, or at any of the gardens on the day of the tour. Proceeds from the tour benefit PGC’s community programming and annual scholarship fund, awarded to a high school senior who will study in the field of horticulture, environmental sciences, or other related field.
