On Sunday, February 22 at 4 PM The Mainstay in Rock Hall will be the venue for a cozy winter salon of 19th-century classical music. Salons were a weekly feature in Paris from the 16th century until the early 20th century, and this one is the perfect antidote to winter malaise.
The Brasswood Trio’s 21st century’s version of this tradition features oboist Dana Newcomb, French hornist Anne Nye, and pianist Kendra Bigley, three musicians who exemplify the characteristics -- bright, inspired, and trend setters -- of the leaders of history’s great salons.
“Given the infectious warmth of these three accomplished musicians and the elegant and inventive program they have put together, this will be a cozy concert to cheer us all up after this winter’s chill,” said Muphen Whitney, Volunteer Coordinator of the Classical Music Series. “The intimate atmosphere of The Mainstay and our wonderful audience also will add to the ambiance of a cozy winter salon.”
The program opens with 19-century composer Carl Reinecke’s Trio for Piano, Oboe, and Horn that will introduce the audience to all three members of the Trio. Other works to be performed include Hermann Neuling’s Bagatelle for Horn and Piano and Bela Bartok’s Three Folksongs from the County of Csik for Oboe and Piano.
