Brookline’s popular jazz venue is about to get a blues and soul boost.
On Friday, June 12, 2026 at 7:30 pm, BLUES & SOUL featuring The MWALIM TRIO arrives at Postunderground (VFW364), 386 Washington Street, expanding the venue’s sound with an evening rooted in blues, soul, and jazz. Known for its growing reputation as a destination for live jazz, the space shifts gears for a night that blends deep groove, improvisation, and emotionally driven performance.
The trio is led by multi-award-winning composer, musician, and producer Mwalim on guitar, keys, and vocals; joined by ZYG 808 on drums; and Richard Johnson on bass. Together, they deliver a mix of original material and reimagined classics, drawing from the traditions of American blues and soul while moving into contemporary territory shaped by live interaction and spontaneity.
Mwalim, a three-time New England Urban Music Award winner for jazz and co-founder of the Grammy-nominated group The GroovaLottos, continues to build momentum through both performance and recording. His body of work includes the internationally recognized album THUNDERCHILD, along with recent singles such as “A Party at the Crossroads,” “Always Right There,” “A Sweet Memory,” and “Your Hands,” all available on streaming platforms. His latest release, “ROLLING JOINTS,” arrived in May and reflects his current cycle of new music and touring.
The June 12 performance is expected to move fluidly between blues storytelling, soul vocals, and jazz improvisation, offering a different dimension to a venue already known for its jazz programming.
