5th Annual Danbury Juneteenth Celebration

The Danbury Juneteenth Coalition and CityCenter Danbury Proudly Present: “Thriving Together, Empowering Community: Faith, Family, Freedom” -- the 5th Annual Danbury Juneteenth Celebration. Danbury, CT (June 5, 2026) – The Danbury Juneteenth Coalition in partnership with CityCenter Danbury are proud to present the 2026 Annual Danbury Juneteenth Celebration, taking place on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the CityCenter Green in downtown Danbury. This year’s celebration, themed “Thriving Together, Empowering Community: Faith, Family, Freedom,” will combine the Annual Cultural Program festivities with the Live R&B and Soul Summer Concert into a powerful evening of live music, culture, and community connection. Annual Cultural Program (5-6:30PM) Our program will feature a variety of live performances and special recognitions that reflect this year’s theme. Larry Mouning and African Drummers from the Harambee Center for Youth & Community will kick off the annual jubilee. Then returning to the Danbury Juneteenth stage will be local choirs from The Faithful Few and New Hope Baptist Churches, Visions of Praise liturgical dancers, hip hop dance troupe featuring professional Kani “Nikee” Key, and up & coming lyricist D.J. Gaines. A program favorite, community line dancing, will once again be led by Rhonda Neal. New this year, organizers will honor select members of the community whose leadership, service, and advocacy embody the spirit of the celebration and whose efforts continue to further the values of Faith, Family, and Freedom throughout the greater Danbury community. Follow the Danbury Juneteenth Facebook page for additional details regarding award recipients and recognitions. R&B and Soul Summer Concert (7-9PM) Headlining the evening’s highly anticipated R&B and Soul Summer Concert is acclaimed performer Mr. Qwes Live Band, bringing an electrifying blend of soulful vocals, live instrumentation, and dynamic stage presence to the Juneteenth stage. Known for captivating audiences with heartfelt performances and energetic delivery, Mr. Qwes promises a memorable concert experience that celebrates Black artistry, resilience, and joy. Joining Mr. Qwes featured artist and Danbury’s own, Ms. Simone Moné, whose soulful sound and commanding voice continue to make waves throughout the regional music scene. Together, these artists will provide an unforgettable soundtrack for an evening dedicated to honoring freedom, heritage, and unity within the Danbury community. “Juneteenth in Danbury keeps growing because more of the community is making it their own,” said Lisa Scails, Executive Director of the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut, a member of the Danbury Juneteenth Coalition and its fiscal sponsor. “It brings together local partners, artists, families, and neighbors in a way that feels visible, welcoming, and shared.” “This year’s concert is more than entertainment. It is a celebration of culture, excellence, and community pride, which is why we wanted to strengthen our partnership further this year,” added Lazaro Chavez, Executive Director, City Center Danbury. In addition to the evening concert and program, The Danbury Museum will once again sponsor the Juneteenth Exhibit and Walking Tour as featured Cultural & Historical Activities. There will also be the Kids Corner with children’s activities (e.g., arts & crafts, ballooning, book giveaways, face painting, storytelling, etc.), local vendor & resource stations with merchandise for sale as well as educational resources (e.g., employment opportunities), and a variety of food trucks! The celebration is free and open to the public. For updates, vendor registration or sponsorship opportunities, please visit Danbury Juneteenth Celebration.
