Pedals, Pipes and Pizza - hands-on workshop intro to the pipe organ Sat, Feb 21 10:00am
Pedals, Pipes, Pizza & OrgelKids is a hands-on musical experience designed especially for curious children ages 8 and up who are taking music lessons and want to explore something new.
Hosted by the Greater Bridgeport Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, this engaging morning introduces students and families to the fascinating world of the pipe organ through listening, playing, building, and discovery. Participants will have the rare opportunity to play two real pipe organs, including the church’s full sanctuary organ, and are encouraged to bring their own piano music to try on the organ.
A highlight of the event is the OrgelKids Kit, an internationally recognized educational program that allows students to work together to build a fully functioning mini pipe organ. With guidance from professional musicians, children learn how sound is produced, how pipes work, and how this historic instrument connects to what they already know from piano and other instruments. This event blends music, science, engineering, and creativity in a fun and supportive environment. It is ideal for piano students, young instrumentalists, homeschoolers, and families who value hands-on learning experiences. Pizza lunch is included, and parents or guardians are encouraged to stay, observe, and enjoy the experience alongside their children.
