Pitch in for Parks!

Westchester Parks Foundation is preparing for its largest volunteer initiative of the year, Pitch in for Parks, the Foundation’s signature multi-day Earth Day cleanup event that helps prepare Westchester County Parks for the busy spring and summer seasons. First launched in the late 1990s, Pitch in for Parks has grown into a countywide tradition that mobilizes hundreds of volunteers each year in support of the parks that serve as vital community resources. Volunteer registration is now open at: https://thewpf.org/volunteerevents Pitch in for Parks 2026 is made possible with the support of Gold Sponsor New York Power Authority, the largest state-owned public power organization in the U.S., with headquarters in White Plains. Pitch in for Parks 2026 will kick off on Earth Day, April 22, at Lenoir Preserve in Yonkers, launching a week of volunteer events across Westchester County. Additional weekday projects will take place at Muscoot Farm and Willson’s Woods Park, providing opportunities for volunteers to contribute to meaningful park improvement efforts throughout the week. The initiative will culminate on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine, with large-scale volunteer events at four major parks across the County: Glen Island Park, New Rochelle; Scout Field, Bronxville; Bronx River Reservation, White Plains and Tibbetts Brook Park, Yonkers. Volunteers will assist with a wide range of projects designed to enhance park beauty, safety, and accessibility. Activities will include flower planting, tree planting, picnic table building, mulching, fence maintenance, invasive species management, raking, and litter removal. All tools will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and clothing appropriate for outdoor work. Pitch in for Parks is open to volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. Community members are welcome to participate as individuals or as part of a team, including families, students, civic groups, and corporate volunteer programs. Weekday event times vary, while Saturday’s events allow volunteers to drop in at any time during scheduled hours. NYPA staff will volunteer at this year’s Pitch in for Parks Yonkers event. Those interested in participating are encouraged to sign up on the Volunteer New York! registration page at https://thewpf.org/volunteerevents. Since 2015, the Westchester Parks Foundation Volunteer Program has mobilized 32,522 volunteers who have contributed 97,791 hours of service, helping to enhance and preserve Westchester County Parks for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.
