Mirabo Press is thrilled to announce our upcoming exhibition, Conned, by Dusty Herbig. The exhibition features etchings, lithographs, woodcuts, screenprints, and mixed media works on paper and fabric, exploring our reliance on technology in everyday life and the overwhelming amount of information we encounter through it.
Herbig’s work reflects on the way technology has become integrated into even the simplest and most mundane tasks, while important conversations about humanity’s future can become obscured by the constant stream of information surrounding us. Across the works, text appears as a recurring element, but is often difficult or impossible to fully decipher. There is a sense that information is present, yet something prevents us from accessing it clearly.
The layered and fragmented text encourages the viewer to shift their focus, revealing small details within an otherwise saturated field of information. Through a range of printmaking techniques and mixed media processes, Herbig creates works that consider the tension between being surrounded by information and actually being able to understand or hear what matters.
We hope you’ll join us for the opening reception on Friday, August 28th, from 6-9 PM. The event is free and open to the public.
About the artist:
Dusty Herbig is a professor in the School of Art at Syracuse University where he teaches all aspects of the Print Media & Graphic Art program plus graduate critique and graduate seminars. Herbig also directs Lake Effect Editions at Syracuse University where he has collaborated with over 50 visiting artists since 2006 to create fine art editions with students. Syracuse University recently sponsored the Twentieth Anniversary of Lake Effect Editions, in fall 2025 at the Warehouse Gallery.
Herbig exhibits his graphic works nationally, participating in exhibitions in all corners of the U.S., including Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, San Francisco, New York City, and internationally, including exhibitions in Japan, Canada, China, Argentina, Spain, Pakistan, Taiwan, Brazil, Germany, South Korea, and Poland.
His socially provocative work is in the permanent collections of many institutions, including the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts; KUMU; the Art Museum of Estonia; Spencer Museum of Art in Lawrence, Kansas; the Hunterdon Museum of Art, Hunterdon, New Jersey; the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, California; and Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, New York City, among others.
