9/11 Remembrance Event
Fort Myers Elks Lodge #1288 invites the Southwest Florida community to join together for a special **9/11 Remembrance Event** on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Eastwood 77 at Eastwood Golf Course, 4600 Bruce Herd Lane in Fort Myers. Doors open at 5:00 p.m., with the observance beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
This solemn ceremony will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, the ordinary citizens who performed extraordinary acts of courage, and the members of our Armed Forces who answered our nation's call in the years that followed.
Members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will lead a moving tribute recounting the events of September 11 and reflecting upon the courage, sacrifice, compassion and remarkable sense of national unity that emerged from the tragedy. Local first responders, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, veterans, active-duty military members and public servants will receive special recognition for the service they continue to provide to our communities and our nation.
The ceremony will include a moment of silence for those who lost their lives and for the families forever changed by September 11.
In a special conclusion to the observance, guests will participate in a **Candle of Remembrance** ceremony. Each attendee will receive a votive candle and be invited to come forward and place it around a single burning Eternal Light of Remembrance. As the individual candles gather around the central flame, they will create a shared light symbolizing the courage, sacrifice and unity that arose from one of our nation's darkest days.
First responders, veterans, families, members of the Elks and the general public are warmly invited to attend and stand together in remembrance.
