A Gathering of Quilts, Feb. 13 & 14,at CHEC in Punta Gorda, Benefits Charities and Veterans

Every 2 years the Disconnected Piecers Quilt Guild of Port Charlotte hosts A Gathering of Quilts. More than just a quilt show, this event raises funds that ultimately benefit local charities. Each year this group of roughly 150 members donates approximately 350 quilts to Tidewell Hospice, Head Start, Quilts of Valor, & C.A.R.E., plus pillows and fidget mats for Hospice and blankets for the SPCA. Last year they also made 550 pillowcases for Ryan’s Cases for Smiles, who distributes them to children in the hospital. At the Quilt Show patrons can view 200 judged quilts. Special exhibits include a salute to America with Red, White and Blue quilts, a grouping of quilts that are inspired by children’s storybooks, and a display by Featured Artist, Jamie Sculley. In addition, they can shop our many vendors; take some chances on the basket raffle; attend demonstrations and book signings by local artist and author, Carla Klop; take a fabric embellishment class with Bobbie Bergquist of www.quilterstreasure.com; make one or more pillowcases for Ryan’s Cases for Smiles; and shop in our boutique of handmade items. Four veterans with local connections will be honored at 11 am on Saturday with each being presented a Quilt of Valor in recognition of and appreciation for their service. A Gathering of Quilts will be held at the Charlotte Harbor Event Center, located at 75 Taylor Rd, Punta Gorda on Friday, February 13th from 9 – 5 and Saturday, February 14th from 9 – 4. Admission is $10.
