In this class instructed by Jo-Ann Sanborn, we will explore techniques for painting Florida’s distinctive scenery—sunlit skies, lush palms, coastal colors, and the unique light that defines the region.
Students will work on developing strong compositions, mixing vibrant yet natural color palettes, and creating depth and atmosphere in landscape painting. Demonstrations and individualized guidance will help refine brushwork, color harmony, and the interpretation of natural light.
This workshop is designed for painters with experience in acrylics or in oils who want to strengthen their landscape painting skills and bring more life and movement to their work.
Instructor will paint in acrylic but all mediums are welcome. Bring what you are used to painting with, colors, brushes, something to hold water, a palette/palette paper, a support and an extra. I’ll have extra acrylics colors to share. Also bring a photo or two to work from – I’ll have some to share.
Date: Friday, May 29, 9:30-3:00pm
Fees: $75 Members / $85 Non-members

Jo-Ann Sanborn has joyfully painted the threatened Everglades landscape since falling in love at first sight. Her focus is to bring attention to the fragile landscape with strong expressionistic compositions rich with uncommon color. The images are ancient and familiar, palms, prairie, water, and skies. She invites you to take a breath, become engaged in the natural world, and to listen for the voice of the Everglades through her work.
Her paintings are enjoyed by collectors across the United States, Canada, several Europe countries, Scandinavia, and Africa. She has been honored with nine solo shows and numerous awards and is a member of several professional organizations including the National Association of Women Artists. Sanborn loves travel, teaching and holds plein air workshops in the Everglades. She lives and works on Marco Island, FL where she maintains her studio.
