Diablo Ballet presents Romeo and Juliet
Diablo Ballet celebrates its 32nd Anniversary with Romeo & Juliet, performing March 27 – 28, 2026 at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek.
Choreographer Penny Saunders takes you on a powerful journey with a brand-new production of the timeless love story, Romeo & Juliet, Shakespeare’s famous tale of star-crossed lovers is retold through passionate choreography and dramatic staging.
Also on the program is the company premiere of Gerald Arpino’s Birthday Variations. Originally commissioned for the Joffrey Ballet in 1986, Birthday Variations is one of Gerald Arpino’s most delightful and technically dazzling ballets. Set to a selection of buoyant operatic melodies by Giuseppe Verdi, this neoclassical jewel brims with elegance, charm, and effervescent musicality. Artistic Director Lauren Jonas stated, “I am so honored for Diablo Ballet to have the opportunity to perform this beautiful ballet.”
Romeo & Juliet performs March 27 - 28 at the Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Drive in Walnut Creek. Performances are Friday, March 27 at 6 pm and Saturday, March 28 at 2 pm & 7:30 pm. The performance on March 27 is a special performance followed by a 32nd Anniversary Celebration immediately following at Prime Steakhouse and Martini Bar (formerly Scott’s Garden) within walking distance from the theatre.
