Artist Talk & Closing Reception: Speaking Ancestors / [Re]Awakening Spirit

The Liliana Bloch Gallery is proud to host a closing reception and artist talk for Speaking Ancestors / [Re]Awakening Spirit, a solo exhibition by Kelly Tapia-Chuning. Join us on April 11 from 3 to 4 PM for a conversation with the artist, Kelly Tapia-Chuning, and Dr. Monica Salazar, an art historian at the University of North Texas with a focus on Latin American art. Together, they will discuss Tapia-Chuning’s artistic practice, use of Indigenous frameworks, and the concept of ancestral memory. Following the talk, there will be a closing reception till 5 p.m. Tapia-Chuning’s work reimagines the serape as an investigative and reflective forum, as she unravels its structure to examine histories of migration, colonial exchange, and cultural inheritance. Her current work references the Indigenous principle of the Seven Generations, reflecting on how identity is shaped across time and how histories are transformed and carried forward.
