Declared “a dream group” by The New York Times, Owls is a genre-defying string quartet collective known for performances that are visceral, imaginative, and deeply personal. Presented by Friends of Chamber Music as part of its Friends in New Places series, Owls makes its Denver debut on Sunday, March 1 at 4:00 PM at the Lakewood Cultural Center.
The program features the world premiere of "Three Tunes" by Boulder composer Annika Socolofsky, exploring what its like to be inside a fiddle tune. Additional selections include works by François Couperin, Paul Wiancko, Trollstilt, and Terry Riley. Performed by the distinctive artistic voices of Alexi Kenney (violin), Ayane Kozasa (viola), and cellists Gabriel Cabezas and Paul Wiancko, this concert opens new sound worlds—“free from constraint, danceable, rapturous” (The Strad).
