BasBlue is celebrating its fifth anniversary and preparing for its annual Bold Women Summit on March 31, 2026, a signature event designed to deliver the scale and influence of major regional conferences while maintaining the accessibility and intimacy that define the BasBlue experience.
BasBlue opened in October 2021 in Detroit’s cultural corridor with one guiding question:
Could a physical space bring together professional development, entrepreneurship, wellness, and community, and truly move the needle for women?
Five years later, the answer is evident in a thriving, multi-generational membership and a growing footprint across Detroit’s professional ecosystem.
“We created BasBlue to be a place where women could gather, share their stories, and inspire one another to take bold action in community,” said Ellen Gilchrist, CEO.
From the beginning, BasBlue was built with community at its center. The organization was shaped through listening sessions, informed by member feedback, and continually responsive to real-time needs. What started as a startup nonprofit has evolved into a trusted platform serving hundreds of women annually.
Today, BasBlue serves more than 600 members. Roughly half live in Detroit, and more than half identify as people of color. More than 125 women participate annually through the Trailblazer Scholarship program, which provides free one-year memberships to entrepreneurs and professionals who otherwise would not have access to the space and its programming.
“The Power of Us reflects what we see every day; when women step into their leadership and support one another, they don’t just advance individually. They help shape what comes next for all of us,” said Gilchrest.
Accessibility is not an add-on; it is central to the mission. In addition to offering more than 100 Trailblazer scholarships each year, BasBlue works intentionally to keep membership affordable without compromising the quality of experience, programming, or physical space. The goal is not exclusivity. The goal is economic mobility.
The Bold Women Summit on March 31, 2026, will reflect that philosophy at scale. Designed to bring the caliber of larger summits to a more personal setting, the event offers high-impact conversations in a space where attendees can meaningfully engage with speakers and one another.
The 2026 keynote lineup will feature women in leadership, including celebrated fashion designer Tracy Reese and Robin Terry, CEO of the Motown Museum. Their leadership journeys — rooted in creativity, cultural legacy, entrepreneurship, and civic impact — embody the Summit’s focus on bold vision paired with tangible action.
The community BasBlue serves includes early and mid-career professionals, entrepreneurs moving from idea to readiness, creatives, civic leaders, women re-entering the workforce, and Gen Z and emerging leaders. Programming is intentionally designed across multiple life and career stages, creating a rare intergenerational connection under one roof.
For women, BasBlue is a “third space” — not home, not work, but a trusted home base. It blends professional development, entrepreneurship support, financial wellness, physical wellness, creative and cultural programming, and civic engagement into one holistic ecosystem open to both members and the broader public.
The organization’s belief remains clear: when women are resourced holistically, economic mobility follows.
As BasBlue marks five years in Detroit, the Bold Women Summit stands as both a celebration and a catalyst — proof that access and excellence can coexist, and that intimate spaces can generate large-scale impact.
