Take Flight 5k and 1 Mile Race
Each spring, our Take Flight 5K and 1-Mile Run helps make that connection to aviation stronger by bringing together runners, pilots, families, and aviation supporters for a day that celebrates both community and flight. The race has grown to be one of the largest in the Upstate. We had 1091 runners last year and will grow it more every year. The race starts with a short Memorial Day ceremony to honor the fallen heroes that give us our freedoms before starting the most unique race in the Upstate.
Runway Park was created entirely through community support and remains one of the most unique parks in our region that offers children and families a front-row seat to aviation while providing a safe, engaging place to play, learn, and dream.
Unlike most public parks, Runway Park receives no city or county funding. It is maintained solely through picnic shelter rentals, school field trips, donations, and this annual fundraising event. Every improvement you see, from playground structures and safety enhancements, has been made possible by community and corporate support. We ensure that 100% of your donation goes toward the park.
This year, we’re focused on:
• Refreshing aging play features that see heavy daily use
• Adding a speaker to hear the ATC tower and pilots request for take off
• Expanding shaded seating areas for families and visitors
• Adding new playground equipment when we get FAA approval
