How to Eat Like the Romans

Visualizing a servant feeding you grapes as you recline in your toga? The grapes are part of a surprisingly healthy Roman diet high in grains and vegetables and including many staples of modern Italian cooking. Join University of Hartford History Professor Mari Firkatian as she discusses what they ate and how it was prepared. There’ll be three lectures/discussions where we’ll learn about Roman food and enjoy some samples. As an added treat, Chris Prosperi’s Metro Bis Restaurant will prepare for us a four-course Roman feast complete with wine. Choose to attend just the lectures, just the dinner, or both. Lecture/discussion on Tuesdays, Jan. 27, Feb. 3, 10, 2-3:30 at UHart. Dinner is Tuesday, Feb. 24, 6:30-8:30 Metro Bis in Simsbury. Sponsored by President’s College Lifelong Learning at the University of Hartford. Visit Hartford.edu/pc to check this out as well as lots of other winter/spring courses & lectures.
