In 2004, sculpture students at Herron School of Art and Design were given a simple assignment: make wearable art. Now, over two decades later, what began as a straightforward school project has become one of Herron’s largest, longest running events: The Wearable Art Show. The Wearable Show celebrates invention, creativity, and collaboration in all its forms, exhibiting work from students across Herron’s many majors as well as non-fine art students and alumni. From wearable sculpture to haute-couture, functional garments to performative costume, every medium will be on display to its fullest for public enjoyment and wonder. “What stands out most” remarked Allison Baker, Herron sculpture professor and tenured artist, “is the student’s willingness to take risks—producing experimental, boundary-pushing work that honors the long and respected lineage of this event while pushing it forward in exciting new directions”. The 22nd annual Wearable Art Show is open to the public, completely FREE, and will take place on April 7th at the Eskenazi Fine Arts Center, 1410 Indiana Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m. to live accompaniment from DISEnsemble, a Music and Arts Technology performance group, with the runway portion of the show kicking off at 7 p.m.
