As infrastructure improvements move forward at the site of Indianapolis’s historic Greenlawn Cemetery for construction of the Henry Street Bridge, archaeologists have uncovered compelling evidence of the area’s layered past, including the final resting places of many of the city’s earliest residents.
On May 12, join us for a fascinating conversation on the archaeology of the Henry Street Bridge project and its remarkable discoveries.
The evening begins with a preview of an upcoming documentary on Greenlawn Cemetery produced by Studio Auteur, followed by a panel discussion with filmmaker Jerald Harkness, archaeologists who managed the Henry Street Bridge project excavation, and members of the project’s Community Advisory Group.
Together they will share insights from the excavation, discuss the process of researching, interpreting, and memorializing those buried at Greenlawn, and reflect on how archaeology can inform responsible development while deepening our understanding of Indianapolis history..
