Johnson County Extension Master Gardener Public Garden Tour

Discover inspiration around every corner during the 2026 Public Garden Tour. This special event invites visitors to step beyond the garden gate and explore six unique private landscapes created and maintained by local Extension Master Gardeners. By opening their personal gardens to the public, these dedicated volunteers offer a rare opportunity to wander through beautiful backyard spaces and experience what is possible in our local climate. Each garden on the tour showcases its own personality and style. Visitors will stroll through vibrant native plant landscapes alive with pollinators, elegant French Country–inspired designs, charming cottage-style gardens overflowing with blooms, peaceful retreat spaces designed for relaxation, and productive gardens where flowers, herbs, and vegetables grow side by side. Every stop offers beauty, creativity, and inspiration for gardeners and nature lovers alike. In addition to the ticketed gardens, guests are invited to visit the Dennis Patton Garden Gallery Demonstration Garden. This garden is free to explore during the tour and is also open to the public year-round. The Demonstration Garden showcases research-based gardening practices and offers practical ideas visitors can take home and try in their own landscapes. Visitors can also browse the Garden Thyme Marketplace, a special one-day market open only during the Public Garden Tour. The marketplace features handmade, garden-themed gifts and unique items created by talented volunteers and supporters—perfect for finding something special for your garden or a gift for the plant lover in your life. While you’re there, explore the Extension Expo and discover the many programs, resources, and educational opportunities available through Extension. The Public Garden Tour is designed as a relaxed, self-guided experience. Guests can explore at their own pace, linger in favorite spaces, capture photos, and soak in the beauty of each landscape throughout the day—or even return to enjoy the tour across both days. Because the tour features private gardens and limited capacity, tickets are in high demand and sell out every year. Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets online early to secure their spot and take advantage of the early-bird discounted rate. Whether you are an experienced gardener, a new homeowner looking for ideas, or simply someone who enjoys beautiful outdoor spaces, the Public Garden Tour offers a memorable opportunity to connect with gardening, creativity, and the local community. Ticket purchases support community horticultural education and scholarships.
