OMEYOCAN: El Lugar De Dualidad

Los Angeles, CA—Avenue 50 Studio on Fig is delighted to present “OMEYOCAN: El Lugar De Dualidad”. A powerful duo married in partnership for 32 years and who founded a growing arts collective called Kalli Arte for 21 years so far, Adriana Carranza and Alfonso Aceves will line the walls of Avenue 50 Studio with a new body of work expressing their inner visions of OMEYOCAN. The Aztec word “Omeyocan”, used to frame the narrative of this upcoming exhibit, is from the Nahuatl ōme ("two") and -cān ("place"), translates to "place of duality". In Aztec cosmology, it is the highest, thirteenth level of heaven (Ilhuicatl-Omeyocan). It is the supreme, mystical realm of the creator deity Ometeotl, representing the source of life, cosmic energy, and the union of opposing forces like male/female, light/dark, and order/chaos. Showcasing striking imagery and linework through serigraphs and linocut mediums, Adriana and Alfonso seek to speak directly to their communities and beyond. A Statement from the Artists: “During these times, we feel a force weighing down at our hearts, flowing tears, and depression setting in. Sometimes the heartache feels like it’s going to break us, but it won’t. Our history is defiant and continues to be defiant. We see the outpouring of love coming in from all directions. We see those who resist not because they hate but because they love. Love reigns supreme, which leads us back to here, OMEYOCAN, a place of duality.”
