Crow Maiden tells the magical Southern Gothic story of 13-year-old Anna. Haunted by her mother’s death and suspicious of her father’s involvement, she must confront corrupt adults with an unusual crow as her witness and guide.
Paperwork Films, based in Louisville, is presenting the first public reading of Crow Maiden, written and directed by Roy Taylor and produced in collaboration with Broadway actor and producer Julia Estrada (Hamilton). The reading will feature live voice performances accompanied by projected images including character designs, storyboards, location backgrounds, and rough sketches.
Featured actors include Bonita Elery, Caisey Cole, Lance G. Newman II, Julia Estrada, Devin McCarthy, Marshall Kaelin, and additional cast to be announced.
Roy Taylor’s animation combines stop-motion paper cut techniques with traditional hand-drawn overlays. His short films have screened locally at Speed Cinema’s Film Slam and Below the Line, as well as at film festivals in Japan, Portugal, Italy, Canada, and across the United States.
This event serves as a salon-style gathering for the creative team and community. The performance will be followed by a moderated conversation with the artists and audience.
Admission is free. Those wishing to support the film's production may contribute through a secure online portal. While all ages are welcome, parents should be aware that the story contains coarse language and references to drug addiction.
