Beneath Our Feet: The Past and Present of Cave of the Mounds, Febraury 18, 2026 @1 p.m

Join us for the next installment of Half-Hour History, “Beneath Our Feet: The Past and Present of Cave of the Mounds" presented by Cave of the Mounds Assistant General Manger Tate Phillip on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Referred to as the Jewel Box of America’s Caves, this Blue Mounds destination contains the oldest dated cave formations in the Midwest. Phillip will present the rich, local history of Cave of the Mounds, from its accidental discovery in 1939 to its development into one of Wisconsin’s most treasured natural landmarks. Tate Phillip is the on-site "keeper of the story" and staff member at Cave of the Mounds. After years of researching at the Driftless Historium and interviewing past tour guides, previous managers, and important people in the history of Cave of the Mounds, she has become one of the site’s dedicated resources, committed to preserving and sharing the remarkable story of Cave of the Mounds. The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society’s Half-Hour History program is a once-a-month midday speaker series featuring engaging presentations on local and regional history. Generously supported through a grant from the Mount Horeb Community Foundation, these FREE programs are open to all and take place at the Driftless Historium at 1:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month. The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society operates the Driftless Historium and was founded in 1975 to collect, preserve, and share the stories of southwestern Dane County.
