Madison, WI- May 4, 2026...Watch the next generation of dancers and choreographers in Kanopy Dance Company’s pre-professional training program, Kanopy 2, and the Kanopy Dance Academy ignite the stage with new ideas, new expressions and even original choreography developed by the dancers themselves at The Next Generation of Dance, a showcase performance on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2 & 5 PM at the Overture Center for the Arts.
Special highlights of the Next Generation of Dance include: Dragon Friends in the Enchanted Kingdom of the Magical Tree , with choreography & costumes by the dancers (Level 1-2 & special guest Level 4);The Seasons, choreography & costumes by the dancers (Level 3), music Antonio Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons”; and Flight of Colors, choreography & costumes by the dancers (Level 4, 5/6), and set to Antonio Vivaldi’s “Cello Concerto in A Minor, ”Concerto #5 in A minor”, and J.S. Bach’s “Violin Concerto #3”.
Kanopy 2 (Kanopy’s pre-professional company) will present excerpts from Igor Stravinsky’s The Soldiers Tale, apremiere choreographed by Robert E. Cleary that was commissioned by the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra for their recent benefit concert in which K-2 also guest performed.
Kanopy Dance Academy (KDA) and its 100 + students are integral to Kanopy cultural mission. As Kanopy’s official dance school, KDA offers a comprehensive program of modern dance, choreography, and ballet as well as rare opportunities for students to learn a repertoire of master works from nationally acclaimed guest artists as well as techniques by underrepresented choreographers whose work has not been widely taught.
Kanopy 2, Kanopy’s studio company, offers a pre-professional training program open to exceptional students of dance by audition.
Kanopy has tapped into some of the best and diverse talent in the country to build its faculty team. KDA students have numerous opportunities to perform at outreach events, in live Zoom collaborations with other professional schools of dance nationally, and in mainstage productions at the Overture Center, including Winter Fantasia Reimagined and the Kanopy 2 and Academy Showcase.
Classes and master workshops are held throughout the year, in addition to Summer Intensives, to be held this year from June 29-August 8, 2026. Renowned guest artists in residence during the session will be: Daniel Fetecua Soto, former principal dancer Limon Dance Company, NYC and Colin Conner, former Artistic Director Limon Dance Company, NYC.
