Bergen County Court Appointed Special Advocates Training

Bergen County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) trains and supports volunteers who advocate for children from Bergen County who are involved in the foster care system. Our mission is to ensure that every child in care—from birth through age 21—has a dedicated Advocate by their side during what is often one of the most difficult periods of their life. For many of the children we serve, their CASA Advocate is the only consistent adult presence while they are in care. For example, we currently have a four-year-old child who has already experienced four different foster placements. Advocates work to ensure that children are safe and that their educational, medical, and mental health needs are being met. They also help address immediate, practical needs—children often enter foster care with little more than the clothes they are wearing, and we help ensure they have clothing, school supplies, and comfort items such as toys. We are preparing to train a new class of Advocates at the end of February and would love to share this opportunity with your readers. I have attached a flyer with the dates of our upcoming information sessions, where interested community members can learn more about the commitment and training involved in becoming a CASA Advocate.
