Children and Family Weekend

Looking for something meaningful - and fun - to do with the kids? Spend the weekend creating, dancing, making puppets, exploring poetry, meeting celebrated authors, and enjoying the arts together at Children & Family Weekend, September 19-20 at Hope Arts Center in Saint Paul. Saturday features nationally recognized parenting expert Erin Walsh, presenting “It’s Their World: Raising Resilient Kids in the Digital Age,” with practical advice for parents and caregivers navigating kids, technology, mental health, and resilience. At the same time, children and youth can get creative in poetry workshops presented with The Loft Literary Center. On Sunday, Newbery Medal-winning poet and bestselling author Kwame Alexander takes the stage for an inspiring, family-friendly conversation about creativity, storytelling, and finding your unique voice. Kids and teens attend his presentation free. There’s plenty to do beyond the presentations, too! Families can drop in for free puppet-making with Heart of the Beast Puppet Theatre, join an all-ages dance workshop with Young Dance, enjoy live music and youth poetry, meet towering puppets in a giant puppet parade, browse books and meet authors, explore art, and wrap up the weekend with a free community reception, poetry slam, and dance party. Bring the kids, grandparents, or the whole family and spend some creative time together! Free and ticketed activities are available throughout the weekend.
