Swallowed By Sea will premiere at the Barbara Barker Center for Dance June 26 -28th. This dance and theater production tells an emotional, redemptive story as an epic myth that invites the audience to navigate the eternal currents through ocean, land and sky. Weaving together a lush choral score, live-animated projection design, and the graceful and forceful physical performances by an all abilities cast who move with and without wheels, Swallowed By Sea is a rich tapestry of a production about beginnings and endings, destruction and renewal.
Off-Leash Area was founded in 1999, and over their twenty-seven years in Minneapolis the company has created 36 original productions, and won two Ivey Awards and a Sage award celebrating outstanding work in local theater and dance. Off-Leash Area’s performances, sets, and productions have been listed in the local press’ Best of the Year lists twenty times since the year 2000. They have also become known in the Twin Cities for their unique community programming, including the Neighborhood Garage Tour and the Off-Kilter program supporting artists with disabilities.
