Entropic Dreams, an original rhythmic tap dance performance created by emerging choreographer Bobby Hamilton, will premiere at the Phoenix Theater in Minneapolis on April 11 at 7:00 PM and April 12 at 2:00 PM.
Featuring an ensemble cast, Entropic Dreams blends percussive movement, musicality, and contemporary storytelling to explore themes of transformation, identity, and the balance between structure and chaos. Rooted in rhythmic tap, the work highlights both individual expression and collective energy, creating a dynamic and immersive experience for audiences.
Hamilton, a Twin Cities-based choreographer and dancer, brings a fresh and personal perspective to tap as both a musical and narrative form. As a queer artist, their work centers authenticity, embodiment, and the power of movement as storytelling.
Entropic Dreams is supported in part by a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (MRAC), recognizing the project’s contribution to Minnesota’s vibrant arts community and its support of emerging artists.
Why This Matters:
Entropic Dreams reflects the continued growth of Minnesota’s independent dance scene and highlights the importance of funding and visibility for emerging artists. By centering rhythmic tap in a contemporary, ensemble-driven format, the work expands traditional perceptions of tap dance while elevating underrepresented artistic voices. The project also demonstrates how regional arts funding directly supports new, original work in local communities, making professional-level performance more accessible to Twin Cities audiences.
