Nashville-based digital curriculum company QuaverEd is proud to announce the premiere of “One Step At a Time,” an original new musical that tackles the complex issues facing today’s school systems. Based on true stories, the musical follows a military family as they navigate a challenging school, dramatically showcasing how empathy, teacher commitment, and social-emotional growth are the keys to school transformation.
The special preview performances are scheduled for January 12 and January 13, 2026, at the Battle Ground Academy Center for Arts & Entrepreneurship in Franklin, TN. They offer a unique opportunity for the community to experience the production and provide direct feedback to help refine the show before its official launch. Tickets are free, and the public is encouraged to attend and share their input.
The musical centers on the Jackson family: mother Jill, a newly hired School Counselor, and her twin seventh-grade children, Aliya and Terrel, who enroll mid-year while their father is deployed overseas. They find themselves in a troubled middle school environment marked by bullying, drug presence, and severe teacher burnout.
The core of the drama pits Mrs. Jackson against the school’s new Principal, Mr. Estevan, as they clash over the best approach to implementing effective school reform. Through song, performance, and character development, the show brings to life the impact QuaverEd’s programs have on school culture.
QuaverEd has assembled a top-tier creative team, including Tennessee theater industry veterans Holly Shepherd (Producer) and Brian Hull (Director). Shepherd has a history of directing at multiple Nashville theaters, while Hull is known for his work on the General Jackson Showboat, Opryland, and the puppet program at the Nashville Public Library.
The diverse cast of 30 actors, all local to Middle Tennessee, showcases talents in dancing, singing, and acting.
