Matcha Green Tea Workshop

Katsumi’s Teaching Kitchen Matcha Green Tea Workshop is a 90-minute immersive experience that blends culture, wellness, and hands-on preparation into one elegant event. This workshop introduces participants to the rich history of Japanese matcha, its role in traditional tea ceremonies, and the health benefits that have made it a global wellness favorite. Guests learn the difference between ceremonial and culinary grade matcha, how it is grown and stone-ground, and why shade cultivation enhances its vibrant color and antioxidant content. The session begins with an engaging overview of matcha’s origins and mindful preparation practices. Participants then move into a fully interactive experience where they learn proper whisking techniques using a bamboo whisk, how to achieve a smooth froth, and how to avoid common mistakes that create bitterness. Each guest prepares their own traditional bowl of matcha, followed by modern variations such as matcha lattes or iced matcha. Throughout the workshop, Katsumi incorporates simple Japanese language elements, wellness education, and practical tips for incorporating matcha into daily routines. The class concludes with making a traditional Japanese confectionary called “Wagashi”. The particular Wagashi that you will make during class is a “Daifuku”. It is a mochi covering red bean paste with strawberry. You will make a traditional Matcha green tea to take with the Daifuku. A Q&A session will be held at the end. Guests leave with recipes, preparation guidance, and the confidence to create café-quality matcha at home.
