When Emergencies happen, what you do today will have a critical impact on the quality of your survival and your ability to help others safely and effectively. This is a free comprehensive emergency preparedness training event at the Brevard County Emergency Operations Center in Rockledge taking place on April 11, 2026. The training will include elements from FEMA’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training and elements of the Scouting America Emergency Preparedness, First Aid, and Fire Safety merit badges. We expect to serve 60 participants. Each participant will receive a wire bound textbook to keep for reference.
This is a free community service event being presented as an Eagle Scout Project for Brevard County.
The training begins at 8:30AM and will conclude at 5:00PM. Lunch will be served as well as snacks and drinks to keep everyone focused and well hydrated. The training includes both lecture and hands-on practical exercises.
Upon completing this course, the participants should be able to:
1. Take steps to prepare themselves, their families, and their communities for a disaster;
2. Recognize life-threatening conditions and apply appropriate life-saving techniques, conduct patient head-to-toe assessments, employ basic treatment for injuries;
3. Describe the post-disaster emotional environment and the steps that volunteers can take to relieve their own stressors and those of disaster survivors;
4. Identify and reduce potential fire hazards in their homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods and perform basic fire suppression strategies, Identifying resources, and safety measures
