Fonda Haddad of Mims will conduct a workshop, “Making an Onion Basket” at the April 25th meeting of the Space Coast Weavers & Fiber Artists. 10 a.m. at the Merritt Island Public Library, 1195 N Courtenay Pkwy.
An onion basket is a loosely woven, medium size basket made with #3 reed. It is an airy storage basket which lets the onions have circulated aiir..
There is a $15 supply fee for the workshop which includes all necessary supplies. Students should bring an old towel, and clippers if you have them. If we have time we will make a small garlic basket to attach to the onion.
Fonda Haddad is an outstanding fiber artist and instructor who excels in dyeing and batik techniques, basketmaking, gourd craft, and various rug techniques including rug hooking. She has taught art at all levels including high school and college, and frequently conducts workshops at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown ,North Carolina.
Since 1983 SCW&FA has been Brevard’s go-to guild for fiber arts: spinning, weaving, basketry, rug hooking, and more. The guild helps fiber artists, beginning or advanced, learn through workshops and the informal exchange of ideas. They also work to educate the public about the fiber arts.
