Lunch & Learn: The Underground Railroad

Join us and our speakers from the Kennett Underground Railroad Center to learn about abolitionists like Thomas Garrett, Isaac and Dinah Mendenhall, John and Hannah Cox, and Dr. Bartholomew Fussell — all of whom risked much for the cause of freedom. Their narratives feature accounts of freedom seekers who were often pursued by slave catchers, incidents of kidnapping, and extraordinary acts of bravery undertaken by those committed to securing their freedom. Central to these efforts was the Progressive Friends Meeting, located just outside the gated entrance to Longwood Gardens, which brought together influential figures such as Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and many others. KURC is a not-for-profit, all volunteer organization located in Kennett Square, PA. Celebrating its 28th year, the organization is dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of local and regional abolitionists, Underground Railroad agents, and freedom-seekers. Enjoy a waffle breakfast, lecture on the Underground Railroad, and a hot catered lunch, followed by a tour of the Keith House if you wish. $42/person $36/early registration (thru April 1)
