Book Signing at Xanadu Art Gallery

Join author Adena J. Bernstein for a special book signing and conversation celebrating the release of her new book, Stolen Legacies: The Fight for Nazi-Looted Art, at Xanadu Gallery in Scottsdale. This meaningful event brings together history, art, and conversation in one of Scottsdale’s most respected fine art galleries. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the author, hear about the inspiration behind the book, and have their copies personally signed. Stolen Legacies examines one of the largest cultural thefts in history: the systematic looting of art and cultural property carried out by the Nazis during World War II. Across Europe, thousands of paintings, sculptures, and cultural artifacts were confiscated from Jewish families and other victims of persecution. While the war ended more than eighty years ago, the fight to recover these works continues today. Drawing on historical research, legal analysis, and personal narrative, Bernstein explores the ongoing global effort to identify and return stolen artworks to the rightful heirs of their original owners. The book examines restitution laws and policies across thirteen countries and highlights how museums, governments, and families continue to navigate complex legal and moral questions surrounding cultural property and historical justice. Bernstein brings a unique perspective to the topic. She is a career prosecutor and the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. Her previous book, Living among the Dead, tells the remarkable story of her grandmother’s survival during the Holocaust and the family’s connection to Poland. In Stolen Legacies, she expands her focus to examine how the theft of art was not simply about property—it was part of a broader attempt to erase culture, identity, and memory. Guests will also have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversation about the importance of preserving cultural heritage and ensuring that these stories are not forgotten. Attendees are invited to meet the author and have their books signed. Copies of Stolen Legacies will be available for purchase at the event.
