Invasive Plant Program (IPP) Removal Day

Help us tend to the land at the Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve and remove invasive plants along the trail! The invasive plant we are talking about is known as Globe Chamomile or Stinknet. While they can make an area look vibrant and green, with little, yellow puffballs to match, they are incredibly destructive to our native fauna. Native to South Africa, Stinknet was first seen in the U.S. in California, back in the 1980s, but would spread into Arizona in the 1990s. It didn't become a problem until the wet monsoon seasons of 2016, 2018, and 2019. Stinknet spreads quickly and takes over the land occupied by native plants, they can cause severe allergic reactions, and, when dry, become kindling for wildfires. Stinknet is difficult to remove and get rid of. The roots can live in the ground for over two years, and the small yellow puffs of pollen can easily attach to the ground when plucked, ruining all your work of uprooting them. We are Deer Valley have learned the methods of how to safely and effectively remove Stinknet and we would love your help in doing it! No prior experience is required! Come to our site on the day of and we'll teach you the in's and out's of removing this highly invasive plant! Spend some time in the sun and put on your gardening gloves with us!
