More than 300 students, ages 5 to 17, will perform in the milestone production. The show marks a full-circle moment for the North Phoenix studio. The Little Mermaid Jr. was the first musical Bender Performing Arts staged when it launched its musical theater department 10 years ago. Performances are scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 19, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Madison Center for the Arts, 5601 N. 16th St., Phoenix, AZ 85016. Tickets are $18-$22 plus fees. “This show represents how far our students and program have grown over the past decade,” said Kevin Bender, owner of Bender Performing Arts. “Ten years ago, we launched our musical theater department with this production. To bring it back now, with more than 300 students involved, is incredibly meaningful for our families and faculty.” The production features performers from kindergarten through high school, reflecting the depth of the studio’s training pipeline. Many older students began in the program’s early years and are now taking on leadership roles on and off stage. “For our younger performers, this is often their first time on a large professional stage,” said Beth Uebelherr, Musical Theater, Artistic Director at Bender Performing Arts. “For our seniors, it is a celebration of years of dedication. It is powerful to see them share the spotlight.” Bender Performing Arts is celebrating more than 50 years of providing dance and performing arts training in Phoenix. The 14,000-square-foot facility offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, tumbling and voice for students ages 2.5 through adult. The studio emphasizes performance opportunities that build confidence, discipline and community.
