Shakespeare's R&J

A “vibrant, hot-blooded” (The New York Times) adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet comes to City Theatre Mainstage, blurring the line between dreams and reality. Bringing Calarco’s script to life is director J. Cody Spellman, currently John Wells Directing Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University. Shakespeare’s R&J follows four boys living under strict rules who, in an act of defiance and curiosity, begin to act out the forbidden play of Romeo & Juliet. What starts as playful experimentation quickly becomes something deeper. Through Shakespeare’s language, the boys reveal hidden desires and vulnerabilities. By the end, the students face a universal choice: retreat into silence – or take control of their own voices. The production, featuring numerous alumni from the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, will be hosted by City Theatre, an institution renowned for its focus on bold and contemporary performances. This is a rental event presented by Julia Production, an independent entity not affiliated with City Theatre Company. Spend an evening out of the ordinary - enjoy a show at City Theatre!
