NEW JERSEY AND NEW ENGLAND GUITAR ORCHESTRAS IN CONCERT


The Music Mansion Concert is a collaboration between the New jersey Guitar orchestra, under the spirited guidance of Jayson Martinez and the New England Guitar Orchestra under the baton of Robert Bekkers. Besides two different programs where both orchestras present themir musical abilities, both orchestras will come together int he performance of a new piece: Sail off the Edge, by Andrew York. This work was commissioned by the New Jersey Guitar Orchestra. York is a prolific guitarist and composer who has written for -and played in- the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and is known for his engaging and accessible style. They will also perform a work by guitarist and composer Matthew Cochran: The Promise of Something New. On Saturday they will present this program during the Guitar Orchestra Summit as a part of the Boston GuitarFest, an initiative of the visionary artist Eliot Fisk. On their way south, back to New Jersey, both orchestras will make a stop in Providence RI for a Sunday matinee concert at the Music Mansion. Both concerts are free of charge, although donations at the Music Mansion are appreciated. Bio: Robert Bekkers earned his teacher’s performer’s degrees at the “Conservatorium van Maastricht” (Netherlands) before he came to Boston where he received his Doctoral Degree from the New England Conservatory. During his time there he worked under the inspiring guidance of visionary artist Eliot Fisk, which further deepened his artistic approach. Throughout his entire education, Robert visited guitar festivals and participated in masterclasses given by many internationally renowned artists. “I have a life-long fascination with my instrument, I love everything about it. When I started to play, I could not be stopped. In fact, the urge to start playing was so great that I built my very first guitar from scratch at age 12.” Robert performs regularly as a soloist or in collaboration with a variety of other instruments, such as: piano, violin, flute or voice.
