Rochambeau Commemoration
Please join Alliance Française de Newport and the
Washington - Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail
for an informal commemoration of the landing of French troops in 1780
under the command of Comte de Rochambeau
and of the special bond between the people of France and the United States.
Johnny Carawan of the National Park Service will outline the significance of the Washington - Rochambeau trail in American history.
Thierry Chaunu of The American Society of Le Souvenir Français will lay a wreath in honor of the French military personnel who lost their lives during the American War of Independence.
The commemoration will finish with the singing of the Marseillaise.
