THE SHOPS AT SKYVIEW TO HOST ‘CULINARY LAB’ EVENT

The Shops at Skyview, a multi-level shopping destination in Queens, New York (https://www.theshopsatskyviewny.com), is hosting a creative multi-week “Skyview High”-themed series of events designed to immerse area teens and young adults in some of the most vibrant and captivating facets of Asian culture, art and food. Participants who take part in these events will have an opportunity to earn “credits” that will allow them to attend a by-invitation-only commencement ceremony on August 30th where K-pop sensation Kang Daniel will make a special appearance. To introduce attendees to the wonders of Asian food, on Culinary Lab day, held on August 14th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Level 4, there will be a Chinese dim-sum workshop led by the center’s own Grandma’s Dimsum; a healthy meal prep demonstration by Japanese cuisine master chef Shota Kawata who is dedicated to promoting culinary culture and aesthetics through hand-on experience; and a Filipino summer dessert workshop hosted by chef Jae de Castro, known for her appearance on the Food Network and her artisanal Twinkie-inspired Filipino desserts, including Keyks, Kukis and ice cream. There will also be Asian snack and drink tastings as well as a Kawaii lunchbox competition. To take part in the lunchbox competition, guests are asked to place photos or videos of their lunchbox and all of its contents on Instagram, tagging @theshopsatskyviewny and #SkyviewHigh. Three finalists will be selected to compete on-site during the event. The winner of the lunchbox competition will receive a $300 gift certificate and will be invited to join the Commencement ceremony on August 30th on stage with K-pop star Kang Daniel. Throughout the Skyview High event series, the center will also host a charitable school supply drive; guests are encouraged to donate new school supplies by placing them in the Skyview High yellow locker on Level 4 at The Shops at Skyview. The Culinary Lab event is free of charge and open to the public. However, space is limited and pre-registration is recommended: https://www.theshopsatskyviewny.com/events.
