Tahoe Symphony Orchestra Presents Dreams of Dawn

There is a moment just before waking, when dreams have not yet released their hold and the world is still half-imagined, that has inspired artists and poets across the centuries. Under the baton of guest conductor Jason Altieri, TOCCATA's orchestra and chorus trace a musical journey from Classical elegance through Romantic passion to the shimmering atmospheric soundscapes of the modern era, a program as varied as it is unified, and as joyful as it is transporting. The evening opens with Mozart's Impresario Overture, a high-energy curtain-raiser that crackles with wit and momentum, a perfect reminder of why Mozart remains one of music's most irresistible voices. The program then shifts into something altogether more dreamlike: Ola Gjeilo's Dreamweaver, a hauntingly beautiful work for chorus, piano, and strings that sets an ancient Norwegian folk poem in music of still, quiet wonder. TOCCATA's chorus takes center stage here in a piece that is both deeply accessible and quietly unforgettable. The concert closes with Beethoven's Symphony No. 1, the work of a young composer announcing himself to the world with unmistakable confidence, charm, and fire. It is a joyful, propulsive close to an evening. Dreams of Dawn is a concert for every musical appetite and the perfect way to spend a June evening in Tahoe. About TOCCATA The Tahoe Symphony Orchestra & Chorus brings quality, affordable classical performances to the greater Reno-Tahoe area, featuring approximately 160 local and guest artists each year who showcase their talents in this remarkable mountain setting.
